Vehicle inspections and emission tests are an annual requirement. Exactly when you need your next vehicle inspection depends on when your current stickers were issued.
After your vehicle passes a safety and emissions inspection, your car or light truck will receive an emissions sticker and an inspection sticker that are valid for one year from the month of the inspection. Check the inspection sticker for the date. You will have to pass the safety inspection and emissions test by the last day in the month that the inspection is due.
But you don’t have to wait 12 months. Inspections and emissions tests can be done as early as 90 days before they’re due. If you decide to get your inspection and testing done early it won’t mean you’ll have an earlier due date the next year. Let’s assume your inspection is due in December this year but you get it done in October. Next year your inspection is still due in December so that you aren’t penalized for getting it done early. The reason you have a 90 day window is to prevent being cited by law enforcement. Getting an inspection done early is always to the customer’s benefit. In case the customer would need a little extra time to pay for repairs, you can utilize that window. However, keeping up with regular vehicle maintenance performed by Jack Williams will ensure lower bills come state inspection time.
Did you just realize that your inspection is past due? There is no grace period for getting the inspection and emission test done unless you are out-of-state when your stickers expire. If you can provide proof of absence, you’ll have 10 days after your return to get it done.
What if your vehicle does not have an inspection sticker and is brand new/purchased out of state? If you don’t currently have a sticker at all and come in today for an inspection you will receive a sticker expiring next year, within the same month it is currently.
Timing Your Safety Inspection and Emissions Test
The inspection and emissions test take about an hour to complete. But don’t wait until the last day to schedule an inspection. You’ll need to give yourself a little time in case a repair is needed to pass.
Check your inspection sticker and call your local Jack Williams to make an appointment to get your vehicle inspected. *Please note there will be a charge if your vehicle does not pass inspection and you do not want us to do the repairs for either the safety inspection or the emissions inspection.
